RAILROAD NEWS

BULLETIN
Dateline Abilene Texas
October 3, 2003

Officials of the Texas and Pacific Railroad Company at their regular news conference reported the arrival of the first regular train from Ft. Worth is scheduled for Saturday 4 October. A celebration is scheduled for the work crews and local population in appreciation of the hard work. Division President, Mike Porterfield, will host the gathering. Scheduled are tours of the equipment to be run on the Texas Eagle. Additionally, the Railroad has brought in 8 Dining Car Crews to provide a sampling of the food to be offered on all the trains between Ft. Worth and El Paso.

Work continues west of town and into Taylor County. Plans are to have service to Merkel by Christmas. This will be a welcome service to the communities springing up as Texas grows west.

Mr. Porterfield stated that the completion of track from Ft. Worth to Abilene and establishment of regular service will allow the West Texas area to participate fully in the state's economic growth.

We will continue to report on the progress of the opening West Texas to the world and operations to the West Coast.

To market this claim they continue to provide the press with sample promotional posters.

This poster appears to be promising the consumer the most modern, comfortable and enjoyable travel available.

We will continue to report on the progress of the opening of West Texas and look forward to the first operations to El Paso.

HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY MY LITTLE UPDATES. I APPOLOGIZE FOR THE LONG TIME BETWEEN BULLETINS, BUT I HAVE BEEN VERY BUSY AT WORK. UNFORTUNATELY, AS MOST OF YOU KNOW, THE RAILROAD MOVED LOWER ON THE PORTERFIELD PRIORITY LIST. THINGS ARE LOOKING UP AND WORK HAS RESUMED. I HAVE BOASTED THAT TRAINS WILL BE OPERATING ON THE LOWER LEVEL BY CHRISTMAS. AS A TEXAN, I HAVE TO KEEP MY WORD. HOPE YOU WILL JOIN ME FOR A RIDE ON THE FIRST TRAIN

MIKE PORTERFIELD
