Portland Industrial Area |
The Portland Industrial area will be a single track with a run around that will will run through the streets of the downtown Portland wharf area. The industry will come off of this track to their sidings. There are 25 spots for 11 industries in this location.
There was not going to be an industrial area until I visited the 1995 NMRA Covention in Atlanta and participated in a switching contest. From that point on I had to have something in a large downtown setting. The runaround track was added to alleviate congestion at Rigby yard. The switcher could do his run around of the cars in the industrial district and leave the Rigby Yardmaster free to do his duties without interuption from the industrial switcher.
This corner of Portland is loosely base on an idea in Model Railroader many years ago.
